Emoticons location Question :
I did recall someone asking in
Max-IT on where is the location
for the MSN Messenger emoticons. Can
you please repeat the steps on how
to change the file extension to the GIF
format?
Answer : The MSN Messenger emoticons are stored as hidden files
and furthermore the file format has been masked to the CAT extension. As
such the first step is to enable the option to view hidden files. To do
this, open Windows Explorer and look for the Folder Options. Next click on
the View tab. Select the 'Show hidden files and folders' and untick the
'Hide extensions for known file types'.
Now browse over to C:\Documents and
Settings\\Application
Data\Microsoft\MSN Messenger\Data\CustomEmoticons. Since the emoticons have been
renamed to CAT files, the images cannot be viewed directly in thumbnail mode
on Windows Explorer. However, the image should be viewable in most image
editors without having the need to alter the file extension. |
